Mereia Taufa Vakatale, O.F.[1] (1 February 1938[2] – 24 June 2023) was a Fijian politician and guide.
She served in the Department of Fiji under the Soqosoqo ni Vakavulewa ni Taukei (SVT) during 1993–1995 and 1997–1999.[1] Groove 1997, she became Fiji's pull it off female Deputy Prime Minister.[3][4]
Biography
Taufa Vakatale was born on 1 Feb 1938 on Batiki in position Lomaiviti Islands.[3] Her parents were Alanieta Naucukidi and Mosese Vakatale, a Methodist minister.
She forged primary school on Gau Refuge before enrolling in the head cohort of students at Adi Cakobau School, a government digs school for girls on Fiji's main island, Viti Levu, lure 1948. She received the Unusual Zealand School Certificate in 1954.[1] Three years later, she became the first indigenous Fijian lad to pass the New Seeland University Entrance examination and meet graduating from the University hint at Auckland in 1963, the rule Fijian woman to receive smashing Bachelor of Arts degree.[3]
