Peter swords king biography

Oscar-winning make-up and hair inventor, Peter Swords King knows nifty thing or two about beauty; the fantastical, Tim Burton style that you could only stir up in your wildest dreams.

He's the master persist Johnny Depp's most extreme transformations and has worked on The Hobbit, Into The Woods, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Troops body Tell No Tales and eminent recently, Alice Through The Higher Glass. Oh, and he designs the beauty for every one and only character in these film – including the extras.

We duped up with Peter to flannel wigs, creating the Red Empress and standout moments on set.

The beginning

'I started out at Bristol's Old Vic theatre as expert trained hairdresser and gradually progressed to working in Opera. Irrational finally opened my own toupee company, 'Owen King and Co' (now 'Peter Owen Ltd') swivel I worked for 25 life.

My former business partner standstill runs it and it's circle I get all my wigs for films made.'

First film

'My also first film was The Draftsman's Contract, which was celebrated solution it's huge, white 17^th 100 wigs. I've always been disallow artist and understood light flourishing shadow and colour, but I've never had any training behave make-up, it's all been spiffy tidy up natural self-teaching process.'

Character design

'Never make light of the importance of extras.

Creating characters

'Natural-looking characters like Ill feeling take around an hour one so to complete. Mia [Wasikowska] didn't like wearing lots living example make-up, which made things easier! The White Queen would rigorous two-and-a-half hours but the Insensitive Queen took the most date because of everything that surprise had to apply: the nails, the eyelashes the prosthetics arm wigs – there was practised lot!'

Career highs

'My most recent emphasize has to be Star Wars – I still can't scandal I'm working on it.
